AlTi - Alvarium Tiedemann

Shared Discretion and Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO)

We’re your investment team down the hall – a strategic partner, not a vendor. That means direct access to senior decision makers and a portfolio built for growth after inflation with active risk management. Our partnerships with endowments and foundations provide a governance framework that strengthens, rather than supplants, the role of your board and investment committee.

We offer two approaches to governance

Shared Discretion

AlTi retains responsibility for investment decision-making and portfolio management, operating within a clearly defined governance framework and accountable for results. Boards and investment committees have the opportunity to review portfolio changes before they are executed, providing transparency and oversight without shifting investment responsibility away from AlTi.  Regular reporting, ongoing communication, and active committee engagement keep stakeholders informed and aligned.

Full Discretion OCIO

For committees seeking a fully delegated arrangement, we offer a discretionary OCIO model that streamlines governance without sacrificing transparency. AlTi is responsible for all investment decisions and portfolio changes, while providing detailed reporting, regular participation in investment committee and board meetings, and ongoing communication regarding portfolio strategy, positioning, and performance. Committees retain strategic oversight without the need to review individual portfolio actions in advance.

Regardless of governance structure, AlTi maintains fiduciary responsibility and provides the same investment process, manager access, and fee schedule. Our role is to align the governance model with each institution’s needs, not to create economic incentives for one approach over another.

Our Approach.

We partner with endowments and foundations to build and manage portfolios designed to support their mission over the long term. Through either our shared discretion or full discretion OCIO model, clients receive direct access to the investment professionals responsible for portfolio decisions, supported by a governance framework tailored to their institution’s needs.

Our investment approach combines decades of institutional experience, rigorous research, and access to leading traditional and alternative investment managers. Every portfolio is customized to reflect the organization’s objectives, spending requirements, risk tolerance, and governance structure.

We maintain a limited number of client relationships, allowing for meaningful engagement, regular communication, and deep institutional partnership. A transparent fee structure, no proprietary products, and substantial co-investment alongside clients ensure our interests remain fully aligned with theirs.
